Camp Cedar Valley

Camp Cedar Valley (now a privately owned property) is located in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. It is situated on 777 acres just south of Viola, Arkansas, on U.S. 412. Cedar Valley served the youth of the Eastern Arkansas Area Council for nearly thirty years. Cedar Valley entertained out-of-council troops and posts on a regular basis, and the outstanding summer camp program was very successful in bringing those units back to the camp. Cedar Valley has its own lake (beautiful Lake The) that is home to some of the finest fishing in Arkansas. Camp’s nearness to seven navigable rivers and Lakes Norfork and Bull Shoals makes it ideal for a group base of operations while touring North Central Arkansas’s lakes and rivers.

Today, Camp Cedar Valley’s facilities have been extensively renovated and upgraded to create unique and quite lovely family-type cabins from many of the old camp buildings (Trading Post, OA Lodge, Health Lodge, and Cook’s Shack). Each has air conditioning, full modern kitchens, bedrooms, showers and baths, as well as nice sitting areas to relax and enjoy nature right outside the window. Each building is available for rent to Scouts as well as non-Scouts. The entire property is available for your enjoyment. It makes a great weekend (or week) getaway, family gathering point, or larger event such as our annual Cedar Valley Homecoming. For more info, see the bottom of this page.

Large bell on scoutmaster's hill — The bell on Scoutmaster’s Hill was a landmark at the camp. When the camp was sold by the BSA, the bell disappeared for about year. It was thought stolen. Later it “reappeared” thanks to a couple of Scouters who had moved it for safe-keeping and repair. We wouldn’t want to give their secret away but if “ILYM” means anything to you, well you know who it was!

View of Lake The from the dam — Beautiful Lake The offers fishing, canoeing, and rowing opportunities. Because the camp has now had several years of very light use (compared to summer camp) the fishing is fantastic from several locations!

View of the chapel — Our Lakefront Camp Chapel was the site of all our Sunday Services when this was used for a Scout Camp. The seating has been upgraded. Lights have also been installed so that the Chapel can be used for night activities.

The pool at Cedar Valley / Pine Trial Reservation — The pool was always a favorite place to be in the hot summer. Swimming merit badge, Lifesaving and other aquatic skills were learned and earned here. While the pool is now closed, the shower houses have been renovated for use by larger groups camping.

World's longest monkey bars — “The World’s Longest Monkey Bridge”. At 80 feet long, we don’t know if it really IS the World’s Longest, but we like to think so. This is only one of the many ‘fun stations’ located throughout Cedar Valley on which Scouts and visitors can test their physical abilities.

All tents in the Family Camping area had electricity running to them. The Family Camp Pavillion with attached showers is in the center of the photo and also available / functional.

Photo of the rappelling tower — Our climbing/rapelling tower (below) was constructed close to Family Camping and begam operation during the 2000 Summer Camp Program. A chain link fence was added after this photo was taken to prevent unauthorized climbing.
